Respawn Entertainment is trying to constantly tweak and improve the online experience for Titanfall players and get them back in. The developer removed the Pilot Hunter and Capture The Flag game modes from the PC version over lack of interest, and now players on all platforms have a new update in store — complete with brand new game modes.
The game modes, which were posted on the Titanfall website along with the rest of the update, will be hosted in a brand new feature of the playlist rotation: the Featured Game Mode.

Getting into the details In a blog post, Respawn detailed why they removed Pilot Hunter and Capture the Flag from playlists. This is a bad experience for the user, and so we had to look at how we fix it. Our first step was removing playlists that were effectively broken. Our best feedback has come from observing the game in the wild. The blog post states that despite there being problems with the servers, people still wanted to play CTF in Titanfall. Thus, Respawn decided to bring back the game mode after a matchmaking update. The blog post goes into detail on how Respawn is working the servers, and why these modes did not work.
You can read that here. I really enjoyed the mode, and it is one of my favorites. It is also mentioned that Respawn is working on new modes and variations of existing modes. Hopefully these will also be as much fun as Capture the Flag.

For years, competitive shooters have struggled to introduce context into a genre centered on brief flashes of action repeated ad infinitum. In practice, the brief campaign of two futuristic armies clashing on distant planets is a limited framework for storytelling. The more notable narrative innovation introduced by Titanfall is the match structure itself.

Titanfall DLC Maps Added to Regular Playlists
There are five different game modes available in Titanfall , all with unique objectives and victory conditions. In this game mode, players are awarded Attrition points for scoring kills, but just not kills on other players. When Titanfall came out back in March, I recommended it mostly on the strength of its Capture the Flag mode. I now retract that recommendation. Developers Respawn Entertainment have removed the ability to play both Capture the Flag and Pilot Hunter modes on PC, except through the Variety option which picks your mode at random or Private Match beta which pretty much requires that you have eleven friends all waiting to play with you.

Our goal is to have a wide variety of playlists that are popular and changing. That said, we will not remove modes from Private Matches, so there will always be the option to select them for competitive and personal play.
Thanks for your understanding as we try to make Titanfall a better experience for everyone. Not being able to play my favourite mode at all is not a better experience than having to wait five minutes to find a match.

No game can ever live up to the kind of hype generated by Titanfall. The beta only enhanced feelings that the game could be something special, and pushed anticipation to fever pitch. This is the game to save the Xbox One, or so they say. The game that revolutionises the genre. And you know what, as crazy as it sounds, they may not be entirely wrong — at least in some respects. Titanfall must have some kind of voodoo magic under the hood, because it makes you feel like a supreme badass, and even the most average shooter player can top the leaderboard on their day.
The smooth frame-rate combined with the double jump means that you can zip around the maps outside of your Titan; the speed is breakneck compared to the other shooters out there. Wall-running means that you can get around the map really well, and verticality makes for a great time, too. There are even zip-lines you can grab hold of to extend your motion — it feels brilliant. Performing a rodeo never stops being immensely satisfying, either.

Pocket-lint – And so the second wave of next-generation games starts with what is unarguably the most talked about title since its first showing at E3 in Los Angeles last June. Available exclusively on Xbox One, Windows and, soon to follow, Xbox , Titanfall is the brainchild and debut game of Respawn Entertainment, the developer formed by a breakaway group of ex-Infinity Ward staff – having created the Call of Duty franchise previously.
You can tell too, not least because Titanfall is a first-person shooter to the max, but also because much effort has been made in spectacular moments and effects. Unlike the Call of Duty series, however, those moments happen on the field of play rather than in cutscenes or far in the distance. The basic premise is something of a sci-fi staple. Two alternative factions, known as the Militia and the IMC, fight it out across different worlds using heavy duty weaponry and other future technologies.

We were able to get some quality time with the near-final build of the Xbox One version of the game this weekend, though, playing alongside fellow journalists and developers from EA and Respawn. The biggest addition over the beta release is in the campaign mode, which takes nine normal six-on-six multiplayer matches on specific maps and dresses them up with a thin veneer of story.
A hardpoint area-capturing match might turn into a battle to secure anti-aircraft guns to protect a planet from an invasion or to protect the invading force, on the other side. A kill-them-all Attrition battle on a dry desert planet turns into a key battle to secure the only convenient fueling station in that area of space. None of this affects the gameplay at all, and it really only provides the barest sense of narrative context for the battles. More than an advancing plot, the story simply hammers home the general impression of a hackneyed, never-ending conflict between an evil space empire and the scrappy militia rebels.
That conflict continues on more or less unchanged whether you win or lose, which lowers the narrative stakes quite a bit to be fair, I was not able to get through all the campaign missions for either side, owing to a lack of opponents during the pre-release weekend. While not objectionable in any way, I feel like most players are going to blaze through both campaigns to unlock the requisite Titan chassis in a couple of hours or so, then promptly forget about it amid hundreds of hours of the standard multiplayer.
Outside of the campaign, there are two new multiplayer modes that have been added since the beta. Pilot Hunter mode is more interesting, giving players points only for killing human players and not for AI grunts or Titans. The full game also opens up a number of weapons and abilities that are unlocked the more you play, in the modern multiplayer tradition. All in all, my initial feeling is that Titanfall remains a refreshing change of pace for an increasingly tired genre, for all the reasons laid out in our beta impressions.
